Welcome to Reception.
Phonics in Reception
In Reception our children start to learn phonics as soon as they start. This is taught through a 20 minute session daily. Phases 2-4 are completed whilst a child is in Reception. The children’s progress through the phases is monitored regularly and we aim for children to move through the phases swiftly.

At the end of Reception each child’s level of development is assessed against the early learning goals (below). Practitioners will indicate whether children are meeting expected levels of development:
- Emerging, not yet reaching expected levels of development for age.
- Expected - reached expected levels of development for age.
