Parent guides:

Children are forever accessing new content online and its incredibly difficult to keep up with what is appropriate?, for what age? how it works? how it can be accessed? etc....  The online world accessed by children can be a mystery to parents and educators as it changes at such a rapid pace.  We hope that by placing these guides on the website it will give parents a quick guide to each area of the Internet, whether it be an app or online game.  All your questions or concerns should be answered by the guides below.

If we work together as parents, guardians and educators at home and in school we can educate children on what a wonderful place the Internet can be.  Full of education and fun and although there are dangers out there, our chidlren will be fully informed in how to avoid them or tackle them if the arise.

If you have any questions about these guides or concerns about what your children are accessing online at home, please feel free to call into the office, email or phone school.  We can talk through issues, advise and print off guides to keep us all in the loop with the online world of our children.

How to access our VLE

Click the picture above to open the Oak National Academy, the online classroom, a free, high-quality site full of video lessons and resources.

10,000 lessons and resources cover a wide range of subjects, from Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 11. Specialist lessons covering a wide range of learning areas and therapies.

Each lesson is an hour-long. They’re delivered by a teacher, with a pre-recorded video as well as quizzes, worksheets and creative activities. It’s all easy to use, there’s no login or password, you can access our lessons on any device, and pupils only need materials they can find at home.

Zoom Logo

Welcome to our Zoom Lessons Page!

If your child has been asked to self-isolate, we will be using this page to communicate with both Parents and Pupils.

Please ensure that you have updated your version of Zoom on whichever device you are using.

The first day of isolation will involve your child watching and partisipating in pre-recorded lessons via Oak Academy.

What will happen from Day 2 of isolation

From the second day of isolation we will be delivering three live lessons per year group.  This will be a mixture of teaching and instruction and also giving children tasks to complete.

Each Zoom lesson will have a unique 9 digit ID which we will dojo message to you along with the password.

To maintain as much normality as possible during the period of closure, we would recommend the following structure for your day:

Breakfast

1 hour Lesson and independent work via Zoom

20 minutes -Game with family member inside/outside

1 hour lesson and independent work via Zoom

1 hour of active play- inside or outside (if possible)

30 minutes lunch together as a family.

1 hour lesson and independent work via Zoom

10 minute break with fruit snack.

1 hour of reading or revision.

Free time

Please try to avoid computer games during the working day.

This routine will help to maintain learning stamina for when we return to school.

Zoom Lessons:

Each evening, the teachers will update the meeting IDs next to the lessons.  The 9 digit number is the passcode you need to access the lesson.  These will be changed daily as the teachers schedule the lessons.

Please be aware that the following apply to live lessons:

  • No 1:1 lessons should take place, groups only.
  • Staff and children must wear suitable clothing, as should anyone else in the household.
  • Any computers used should be in appropriate areas, for example, not in bedrooms; and where possible be against a neutral background.
  • Language must be professional and appropriate, including any family members in the background.
  • Videos may be muted for both pupils and staff if other children in the household become unsettled or cause a disruption.

Please note, if you are late for the lessons, you can still join.  The teacher will be delivering the input for approximately the first 20 minutes of the lesson and also taking feedback on the last 15 minutes of the lesson.

All lessons will be recorded for safeguarding reasons.  These will be viewed by both year group teachers after the lesson.  The page will be password protected.  Please opt out of the video option if you do not want your child to be videoed and posted on this page.
